That's only if you're talking about experienced cooks. [ Which 45 admits to not being so hopefully he spots measuring cups and everything hanging around the counter or sink and that cake isn't going to poof up five times its size in the oven. ]
Meals are provided here, though, so why are you cooking?
True, true. Anyway, call it a personal interest. A hobby, you know?
[ No, he won't find anything like that on the counter- no, I'm kidding. There's measuring cups, they're just soaking in the sink. Or holding the stuff she's going to be adding in right about... now, apparently, since this is looking nice and peaky and fluffy so far.
[ It's a hobby but she's a novice cook. Everybody has to start somewhere, though, and at least she cooks for enjoyment which is more than what he can say. ]
If you have the spare time and money, I guess. I don't bake so much as cook, but if there's any questions you have that can't be answered in a book, I could help.
[ She likes reading up on it but doesn't get the chance to put any of it into action often? Listen. ]
Well, there is a reason I haven't ever really gotten around to doing anything like this before.
[ Speaking of. ]
How deep of a pan would you say something like this recipe needs? I'm not sure that this recipe actually states how much the mixture should be expected to rise.
[ He can't answer that without checking the recipe, but after reading it over and looking at how much batter she has already, he goes around to look at what's available in the kitchen. ]
I'd use a bundt pan for a cake that's a little heavier like this. You wouldn't need to worry about how much it rises since it'll fit the mold.
[ Do I know anything about baking? no, all I own is a bundt pan and a sheet pan ]
[ listen baking is also witchcraft to me, i don't understand how adding exactly this much more butter to your dough makes your cookies come out completely differently. ]
Provided I haven't done anything like substitute baking soda for flour, right? Haha.
[ But anyway that's about that for the batter. She'll just go to check on how the oven's doing. Re: pan, does he find anything or is she gonna have to do it herself. ]
If you're making substitutions I don't know about and it comes out wrong, that's completely on you.
[ He does find a bundt pan and wipes it clean with a paper towel before handing it to her. It should pour right in since there's oil in the batter that'll prevent things from sticking, if I'm allowed to go off memory despite oiling my brownie pans and cakes and brownies are sort of the same thing?? ]
She's actually going to grease the pan once he hands it over because that's what the recipe she's following says to do. There's a small bit of softened butter sitting out exactly for this reason, as well as a remaining little bit of sugar and flour mix.
Then it's pouring time, and in the oven it goes. It looks pretty even? No lumps? ]
[ Butter makes everything better, I guess. Ganba little cake, hopefully it rises beautifully. ]
As long as the timer's set, there shouldn't be any problems. We can get everything cleaned up in the meantime.
[ "We" because even though he provided minimal help with the cake, he's already rolling his sleeves up to help with the dishes. Cleaning >>> cooking, tbh ]

That said she may need help locating a pan. ]

Oh, already? I suppose it makes sense...
[ Multitasking... sort of, it's not really multitasking if one thing's put on hold while you get something else done in that time.
Right, right, she'll help. Her dress is already sleeveless, so we have that much. ]
