You don't suppose this might have been a case of self-defense, somehow? Someone awake after midnight, wary of what it means, attacking the first other person awake that they saw out of paranoia?

It could've been. Or it just could've been a naturally paranoid person.

[Would be bad if it was the self defense, though.]

But I guess we'll see what the evidence reveals...whether it was premeditated or not.

[ wouldn't it be awkward if the person who was actually awake to do a murder to keep the camp going saw the dead body, went 'welp. guess my work here is done' without doing anything and just. went back to sleep. ]

I'd imagine most anyone awake after midnight would be be paranoid. That it's the only clue we can make out for now, though, seems to imply something about it was quite extraordinary, somehow...

[ pauses. nurses cup down to halfway. ... absently dumps the rest on his head.

Anyway, you might be on to something. Or it could be another item, again. Hard to say by this point, considering.

If I remember...there's an item that can cause nightmares in someone and causes them to be anxious when they wake up. But whether that can be considered "paranoia", though...

Ah, yes. Some sort of cursed doll, I believe? I'm not sure that one applies, unless the hint was for us to be on the lookout for someone who seems uncharacteristically anxious today.

Anxiety is different from outright paranoia, after all, but perhaps ... well, I wouldn't know exactly how the doll works. Who knows. But wouldn't it not apply to anyone awake on the night of the murder, considering they wouldn't have fallen asleep to begin with?

In any case. Paranoia seems... A rather odd piece of evidence, especially if it's proximity based.

Maybe someone's overwhelming charisma? Haha. Maybe it was natural the entire time.

Someone was that afraid of getting caught?

That, or they approached Dimitri in a friendly way, but something about how they acted may have made Dimitri wary. And he was probably right to feel that way.

...Or someone was just nervous that it wouldn't work out, whatever the plan was.

I think many people might feel at least a little apprehensive about getting caught, considering the consequences, but that's hardly identifying, nor does it tell us much of anything.
