[HE IS cooking something on the stovetop that is an alarming shade of red... If she gets close, she'll definitely catch a Strong Whiff of something spicy. Comfort food!!]
Hah - just as before. [His head cants a little to the side as he turns away from his pan, offering a little quirk of a smile.]
Despite everything, I think I still had a tiny little speck of hope that we'd actually make it through this one without "the usual", ah. [...] Well! To be fair, what happened today wasn't usual. At least not for us.
[ huh, spices. something you don't really find out in abundance in the yellow zones, something she's not even sure the higher class citizens get much of in the green zones, considering their continued rationing of goods...
has it really been two months of this. ]
Oh? And what would have been the usual for you, then? Outside of demons, that is.
[Time for her to INDULGE IN SPICES and also maybe burn her tongue. Can she burn her tongue?? Mysteries. Maybe she can just enjoy pepper immunity and whatever he's cooking up.]
Oh, it was always the demons, except for the first time. We never had an accidental death - that's what I meant. [...] Never an intentional one that wasn't driven by demons either, unless it was someone exorcising a demon in the middle of the week.
Hm. So your executions, if you got them right, were always relatively guilt free, is that correct?
[ somewhat like in the house, though she imagine demons might not make as many sympathy plays as their monsters- but, then again, who knows. ]
We never had an accidental kill, either. It was always monsters, someone dealing with the monsters, or someone acting on the coercion tied to a given week.
It's interesting hearing about the places that didn't have to deal with these kinds of things.
Not particularly, but that's what happens when you're dealing with people who have no control over their own actions.
[A gentle, sloping shrug. Those demons sure had a fun time just doing demony shit while wearing other people's faces but he WON'T GET INTO THAT...]
Hah - for all of the strange similarities our "games" share, there are quite a few notable differences, hm? Though I doubt we'll be lucky- [The audible airquotes here, damn.] -enough to end up with another accidental murder. What's that about coercion, though? I've heard a little bit of it.
Suffice to say that the mansion didn't think we were killing each other fast enough even with the monsters, so every week it also imposed another condition on us. "Kill, or else your secrets will be revealed to everyone here." Or the week where none of us could sleep, or when it threatened the lives of those close to us from home. There was one week where it promised escape to anyone who killed, or the chance to enact a trade- one of the living, for the life of one of our dead.
[ it's a bit different from the apparent "do this or you die" blackmail she's been hearing about some of the other places. ]
The spider-horse covered one of those, though I'm fairly sure he didn't do it with any of us in mind, and putting down a monster who'd been outed but not executed accounted for another. Other than that, they weren't really acted upon that much. It had to be a kill performed willingly, rather than by possession.
[He makes a face at the spider-horse mention because what the fuck yall. He heard parts of that in trial and he doesn't want to know more.]
Hm... I was talking earlier to Flayn about the possibility of something like that happening here, too. If there really is no involvement from demons or possessing forces, they'll have to find another way to "motivate" us. I'd assume we wouldn't fall for the usual tactics, especially knowing now that even beating one of these games won't necessarily mean escape. But if we're dealing with something that knows us well, it goes without say that they'd know how to target us, too.
[So it's going to be like, a game of willpower chicken??]
[ she makes a faintly annoyed sounding sort of 'tsk' nose, which coming from her is about the equivalent of screaming into the void at how well and truly fucked they are. ]
It has at least eight different settings' worth of experiences to draw upon if it knows us the way the Directors do- technically more, if any of us also come from places that have been going through this for a while.
Of course, I suppose an easy method to make us fall in line is to impose just a single threat: if no one dies, then everyone does.
[She is an entire mood and a half, honestly. Wei Wuxian moves to grab something to plate his very spicy meal with, making a face.]
I'd imagine they may turn to that, or start upping the ante if we don't take the bait they shove at us in these first few weeks. They've already shown a penchant for changing and adding to the rules at their leisure, anyway.
[He huffs out a little sigh, and then gestures toward the dish.]
--You can help yourself, if you'd like any. It's a little on the spicy side, though.
Haha, yes - especially with the time crunch of having investigations and trial in the same day. Ah - though I suppose that's the way you did things at the house, isn't it?
Oh, goodness - more than one, then. I've heard the ones with Hal got nothing at all. Couldn't even examine the bodies or the crime scenes after Friday. We had to find the bodies ourselves too, but at least we were able to look them over more properly during trial.
[Honestly this weird death announcement without stumbling across a corpse thing is new and wild.]
With us, we watched the very first death happen right before us. They were sick, and fell over the railing... It was just one floor. But the body was taken away before any of us could do anything.
I remember several people were upset about that. We had ,.. medical personnel on site. They thought they might have been able to do something... Failing that, try to figure out what happened before any decomposition set in, I suppose.
[YIKES. That's a particularly cruel way to go about it, especially since they all know by now that if someone's meant to die in these places, they're gonna die no matter what.]
Hah... Can't blame them for being upset over something like that. Especially when it was your very first experience with what that place was really like, I assume.
A squad shrouded in mystery. ▓▓▓▓▒ has met them once, and others can only guess at the members' identities from rumors. Members of the squad all have advanced AI and high capacity for independent operation. Rumor has it that Squad 404 usually deals with ░▓▒▓▓▓▒▓▓▒▒▒░░
