Short for Eurosky Low-Emission Infectious Disease. People with the condition are referred to as ELID Infected, shortened to either ELID or Infected, though Infected tends to refer to those earlier on in the disease's progress than ELID does.
I suppose they'd be closer to your fierce corpses than traditional zombies, as you aren't particularly likely to be infected by one of them specifically so much as simply being unfortunate enough to be in the same general area. Mainly because they're created by environmental factors in the first place.
