The logical fallacy is in assigning either of them as absolutes, hm? Fair enough. But then again, there are few such things when it comes to these matters.
[ and yet, there has to be an accepted consensus for people that isn't just relative. the usual criterion for someone to be considered friendly isn't just that 'they're more social than i am,' after all.
but, a slight shift: ]
Then, do you think of yourself as an actor on a stage that moves on around you? Not acting is one thing. Deliberate inaction is another. Paralysis, a third thing entirely.
Perhaps. Ah, but the person who programmed you, or the machine that made you gave you preferences. Those would be the preferences belonging to your creator, so now we have to consider this: are those preferences real? Or are they also an illusion? Does it matter, who it comes from? A machine, a man, a god? Haha.
[He raises his shoulders in a shrug.]
Both, I would think. They feed into each other. The role cannot exist without society needing it. And society requires the information I uncover to help it thrive by catching killers who pose a risk to it.
Well. If even those preferences aren't real, then how are you to say that any of them are?
[ no one: absolutely no one at all: these two: what is a man ]
Conversely, if none of it is real, and all of it is simply a constraint made and enforced by someone, something else... then are you truly so different from anyone else?
Hm. What are you then, if you're an abstraction away from presumably the rest of humanity?
[ mildly. ]
Don't tell me they had mind-mapping technology already, where you're from ... Ah, but if it's faulty and prototypical, then that might explain your amnesia, hm?
Wei Wuxian taught me a little the other week to send to the dead.
[ shrug ]
But my, now I'm really curious what sort of critical thinking skill you think I'd have teach you. Isn't it the usual thing for last century's sci-fi to emphasize that while computers can think quickly, they can only do exactly what they're told to do and no more?
Maybe. But we have a lot to learn from computers! Especially since we're biological computers! [A beat.] Teach me a code. Like, to deliver secret messages or something.
The technology was faulty in this case, you'd just be a byproduct. And just because a mindmap is made, doesn't mean it has to be used... though I suppose in this case you really would be a ghost, considering that mindmaps don't just simply gain cognizance.
[ you can use them as the basis to stick into [redacted] but they're not going to become even remotely sentient, let alone sapient, on their own. ]
I wonder. Perhaps you really would relate more to us Dolls after all. Idiosyncrasies and traits that don't make sense even to yourself, yet you're helplessly beholden to them. That's correct, isn't it?
Mmm, yes. Though it might be hard for me to gesture more than a certain number of times. Maybe the way I do it is more meaningful!
[He attempts to fingergun back, but his hands just. Flop.]
Poetry is fascinating. The use of rhyme and rhythm is really nice...though I'm a fan of tercets in particular, and terza rima. Three lines of poetry, and the terza rima being an interlocking three rhyme scheme. Like so:
[And he recites, off the top of his head, because of course he does:]
"A still small voice spake unto me: 'Thou art so full of misery, Were it not better not to be?’
Then to the still small voice I said: 'Let me not cast in endless shade What is so wonderfully made.’"
[He laughs.]
If you want something romantic or appreciative for a friend, though, there's plenty of poems to choose from.
Relate to you? Hm, I think so. I have often felt, when talking to you, that you might understand my situation better than most. [Not that he's a robot, but...] And yes! You got that right. I feel like...a mold has been crafted for me, and I've been shoved into it, regardless whether its a good fit for me or not. I have to function as the form wants me to.
Could try winking at someone, but that's used often enough to be conspicuous, especially if you have to do it a lot. There's options for more subtle things, but...
[ peers

A certain speed or weight to it, certainly. Towards a specific direction, lazily, carelessly, one-handed, two-handed... those are options.
[ shrug! anyway, that's... quite the poem, anaido. gotta love that depression detective, huh. ]
Terza rima... would imply there being a third stanza to round it out though, wouldn't it? Or does it refer only to the number of lines used in each rhyme?
A squad shrouded in mystery. ▓▓▓▓▒ has met them once, and others can only guess at the members' identities from rumors. Members of the squad all have advanced AI and high capacity for independent operation. Rumor has it that Squad 404 usually deals with ░▓▒▓▓▓▒▓▓▒▒▒░░
